Knowledge Organisers
At Lunt’s Heath Primary School we use Knowledge Organisers in class and as homework to help children to learn the essential knowledge they need for each unit of work they study.
A Knowledge Organiser sets out in detail what children need to know by heart by the end of the foundation subject unit and include;
- the essential facts about the topic, usually laid out in easily digestible chunks
- key vocabulary or technical terms and their meanings
- images such as maps or diagrams
- famous quotations, if relevant.
We expect the majority of children to be able to recall all of the information on the Knowledge Organiser by the end of the unit of work. The children will be tested on these in class throughout their learning journey to help them remember what they are learning and apply it to new learning.

Our learning challenge focus this half term is Geography:

During this learning challenge the children will be:
- Using the eight points of a compass, four-figure grid references, symbols and key (including the use of Ordnance Survey maps) to build their knowledge of the United Kingdom and the wider world.
- Using fieldwork to observe, measure and record the human and physical features in the local area using a range of methods, including sketch maps, plans and graphs, and digital technologies.

During this learning challenge the children will be:
- Describing how living things are classified into broad groups according to common observable characteristics and based on similarities and differences including microorganisms, plants and animals.
- Giving reasons for classifying plants and animals based on specific characteristics.
- Explain why classification is important.
- Group animals into reptiles, fish, amphibians, birds and mammals.
- Sub divide their original groupings and explain their divisions.
- Group animals into vertebrates and invertebrates.
- Find out about the significance of the work of scientists such as Carl Linnaeus, a pioneer of classification.
In Computing the children will be using technology to research and present information about their Youth Parliament topic during the presentations they will give in a couple of weeks time. This will combine our Computing and P.S.H.E.E topics as the children gain the knowledge and understanding to 'Make your mark'.
During Computing the children will:
- Understand computer networks including the internet; how they can provide multiple services, such as the world wide web; and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration.
- Use search technologies effectively, appreciate how results are selected and ranked, and be discerning in evaluating digital content.
- Select, use and combine a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital devices to design and create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information.
- Work with ... various forms of input and output.
Class 6H have PE on Tuesday AND Friday afternoons. Please make sure that your child has their outdoor P.E. kit in school including their trainers for a Friday and their indoor P.E. kit including their pumps in school for a Tuesday.
