Curriculum

We place the greatest level of importance on the quality of education offered to the children of Lunt's Heath. We firmly believe all children are entitled to, and benefit most from, a holistic education that will satisfy their natural curiosity for learning and provide them with a good level of attainment and progress relative to their starting points.

It is our aim to offer educational excellence. Therefore our curriculum is designed and delivered sequentially to allow children to progressively accumulate the knowledge needed in giving them the confidence to pass exams, but importantly it also builds the non-cognitive skills (such as resilience, independence, and critical thinking) necessary in readying them for their next steps in learning for pleasure.

Our children engage in memorable learning experiences that challenge and provoke thought in order to best equip them with a set of meaningful skills and competencies regardless of their chosen future workplace environment.

Context:

We recognise the uniqueness of our school community and therefore carefully tailor the school’s curriculum accordingly, a curriculum driven by enquiry and children's opportunity to ask questions, explore and discover. To avoid duplication, whilst also building on what children already know, it is carefully sequenced and specifically aligned with children’s learning opportunities and experiences away from school.

Children’s prior attainment forms the starting point for our schemes of work. We provide an accessible curriculum for all pupils, planning personalised support that will challenge all children to achieve their potential whilst removing barriers to learning.

A highly skilled workforce forms an essential part of ensuring a high quality learning experience; by paying close attention to teachers’ continuing professional development we are able to ensure the best possible quality of teaching and learning.

Curriculum design:

In line with our statutory duty, Lunt’s Heath offers a broad and balanced foundation to our curriculum incorporating the principles of ‘learning to learn’. Children are encouraged to take a central role in their own learning which requires a greater element of deeper thinking, reasoning, and reflection.

Our curriculum is designed to ensure high quality teaching of the core subjects, developing children’s fundamentals for learning in a progressive and coherent manner. The substance of our curriculum is built heavily on opportunities locally in making learning for our children contextual and purposeful. We have protected the delivery of art, design and technology, music, religious education, foreign language, history and geography appreciating their importance in building cultural capital whilst enriching and enlivening children’s lives through the promotion of spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding (SMSC) running through the heart of all learning.

All statutory elements are met in accordance with the National Curriculum including those of Religious Education, personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE), a daily act of Collective Worship, citizenship, and sex and relationships education.

A wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities supplement well children’s contextual learning to form our extended curriculum offer. We plan extensively for WOW days, themed weeks, expert visitors, and off-site educational visits whilst also offering a range of after school clubs.
