Class 4H 2019 - 2020

Mrs Hulme

Welcome to Class 4H!

This year your teacher is Mrs Hulme

Enjoy using our class page!

There is no, 'DO,' with out no , 'TRY'.

What a great start to the year! All the children are a credit to you as parent’s. They have shown great respect for all the adults they have worked with this week and have shown me that they are hard workers with beautiful  manners. On Wednesday, the children listened to an assembly from Mr Williams, he talked about challenging themselves! He asked them to think about a challenge they could set themselves. I have been blown away at some of the challenges they have set!

Reading

We are asking the children to read everynight after school. Please can you ensure that your child is reading on a daily basis and any comments are recorded in the reading record. Not only does reading enhance a child’s vocabulary, and to help them understand how to read and write, but reading aloud to children also helps them to understand different topics about the world and every day life. I have explained to  the children that they don't always need an adult to sit with them, as parent's are very busy with work, the children can read aloud as mum/dad are making tea or getting on with jobs. I have a raffle system in class 4 H, if they read and their parent's sign the reading record they get a raffle ticket that will go into the draw on a Friday. The children get to take a game home or a special book I have personaly bought for the class, for the weekend. But, you have to be in it to win it!

Year 4 H and 4 L have a number of fantastic trips already booked to look forward to, so look out for them on evolve very soon.

Times Tables

We are focusing on our Times Tables at the moment, especially 6x, 8x and 9x. Please practise and get to know all the tables so that you can recall the answers at speed. Test yourself against the clock  and with mixed questions so that the children are not learning them in order: e.g. 6 x 7, 8 x 9,      9 x 7.

Encourage the children to look for patterns so that they don't have to count from 0 each time to find the answer, e.g. I know that 4 x 7= 28 so 8 x 7 must be 56 because I can double 4 x 7 to get    8 x 7. A great tool for them to use is , 'Maths Shed'. The children have their own login number. The chilren use this   in class and at home to improve  their weekly scores. It gives the children 6 seconds to record their answer, it is similar to the national times tables assessment the children will be completing  at the end of school year. Many thanks for your support

Year 4H have PE on a Monday morning with Widnes Vikings and a Tuesday afternoon.

Please have your PE kit in school! Trainers need to be in school for children to wear during outdoor PE.

Mathematics  and English homework is handed out every Thursday to be returned by the following Tuesday.

Spelling test will be on a Friday.
